Fond du Lac County Master Gardeners Announce a Day of Education for the Community

While gardeners anxiously await the arrival of summer, the Fond du Lac County Master Gardener Association is pleased to provide a diversion in the form of the 1st Annual “Garden Fair and Plant Sale” an Educational Event, along with our Annual  Plant Sale, set for Saturday, May 19th,  2018, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds Cow Palace, 17th Street & Martin Avenue.

There will be speakers on “How to attract Monarch Butterflies” and “Blue Birds”, “Attracting Pollinators to your yard”, “Vermiculture” and more demos.

There will be timely information on Jumping Worms, an invasive species creeping into out landscapes. Due to these worms, Master Gardeners will not be selling any plants in garden soil. http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/invasives/fact/jumpingWorm/index.html  A large selection of Annuals, Herbs, and Perennials will be available for sale in potting mix. Pick out plants and have your Container Gardens put together by a Master Gardener.

Master Gardeners’ Horticulture Help Line will be available all day for your garden questions.

Vendors will be selling Honey and Bee products, Violets, Stepping Stones, Garden Décor, Crafts and more. Helping Hands 4-H Club will be selling food and beverages.

The event, runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Donations are appreciated.

About Fond du Lac County Master Gardeners
The Fond du Lac County Master Gardener Association is a volunteer service organization that assists the UW-Extension by helping people in the community gain a better understanding of horticulture.  Last year, members completed more than 6000 volunteer hours assisting with youth education, elementary school gardens, maintaining gardens at Veterans Park, Lamartine Veterans Memorial, the UW-Fond du Lac Campus and staffing the Horticulture Helpline through the UW-Extension and many community projects in the County.  Since 2000, the total value of Master Gardener efforts in the Community exceeds $1,168,000. To remain a Certified Master Gardener a minimum of 24 volunteers hours and 10 hours of continuing education are required annually.
