2009 Market Livestock Project Educational Requirements
General Guidelines:
- Market Livestock Project participants are required to compete 6 educational credits to sell an animal in the Meat Animal Sale. THERE WILL BE NO SALE REQUIREMENT FOR YOUTH WHO GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL THE PREVIOUS YEAR (i.e. in the last year of junior show eligibility).
- The calendar year for completing 6 credits begins the Monday following the previous fair and ends on the Friday preceding the current year's fair. Hence, attendance at the previous year's carcass show(s) are credited for the next year's educational requirement.
- For planned county market livestock educational programs, there will be an official sign-up sheet at the event.
- For local events/activities involving a limited number of project members (e.g. judging teams, Meat Animal classes, etc.), the event/activity coordinator is responsible for contacting the UW Extension office with the name(s) of participants.
- For events/activities outside of the area (e.g. NASCO Fitting and Showing Clinic, ), a livestock project activity form must be taken to the event and signed by the event coordinator. Forms are available from the UW Extension office and must be acquired prior to attending the event or activity. Events/activities not listed on the Meat Animal Education Web Page must be preapproved.
- Events and activities that will not be accepted for credit include those that are sponsored and limited to members of a specific FFA chapter or 4-H club. However, project members are encouraged to help plan and participate in these types of activities.
- Project members will be informed of market livestock educational events as they are planned and finalized.
- Final credits and sale eligibility will be determined on the Friday preceding the fair. No more credits will be accepted after that time.
- Planned events intended for credit must be approved at least one month prior to the event date. Contact Paul Dyk, Fond du Lac Co. Dairy and Livestock Agent, for final approval.
- All events will be posted on the Fond du Lac Co. Meat Animal Project Web Site: http://fonddulac.uwex.edu/ag/meat.html
